United charged following mass confrontation vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United have been charged by the Football Association (FA) for disorderly conduct following a mass confrontation during the clash with Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Reds secured a 2-1 victory over the Eagles – who have also been charged – on Saturday afternoon, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford. However, they were reduced to 10 men in the latter stages of the match after Casemiro was sent off.

The Brazilian midfielder was shown a red card for putting his hands around Palace midfielder Will Hughes’ throat, and the 30-year-old has been suspended for three matches as a result – the first of which came in the 2-2 draw with Leeds United on Wednesday night.

Carragher makes ‘surprise’ admission about Lisandro Martinez

Jamie Carragher has admitted that he has been surprised by the performances of Lisandro Martinez since his arrival at Manchester United – but is adamant the centre-back’s height will get exposed at some stage.

Martinez has been one of the pillars in United’s success this season having come back from Qatar as a World Cup winner with Argentina. His passionate displays and celebrations have made him a fan favourite at United amid frequent cries of ‘Argentina’ from the stands in adulation.

Carragher admits 5ft 9in Martinez has “coped” well during his first six months at United but stuck by his theory that his height will become an issue later down the line. Speaking on the latest episode of The Overlap fan debate, he said: “Lisandro Martínez has been brilliant. To be that small and play centre-back, you obviously have to be a special player.
