Breaking: Ron Rivera Announces Decision On Starting Quarterback

There’s going to likely be a new starting quarterback in Washington D.C. next season.

According to head coach Ron Rivera, all signs are pointing to Sam Howell being the starter heading into the 2023 season.

“We will go into OTAs, minicamp, and training camp with Sam Howell more than likely as QB1 and we’ll see what happens,” Rivera said. “This is a challenge to him, especially if he comes out and does the things that we believe he’s capable of.”

Howell started the Commanders’ regular season finale on Jan. 8 against the Dallas Cowboys as Rivera wanted to see what he had in him before the season wrapped up.

Howell showed some flashes in that contest as he helped the Commanders win 26-6. He finished the game completing just under 58% of his passes for 169 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

If he can be the guy, the Commanders will have a strong chance of securing a playoff spot next season after coming up just short in 2022.
